Meanwhile, America’s “conservatives” continue their descent into madness

In Washington DC the next few days will see CPAC — the Conservative Political Action Conference.  There was a time when CPAC was almost a worthwhile event complete with real policy discussions and serious panels.

No more.

CPAC reflects the descent of American conservatives into madness.

This year’s CPAC is focused on two items:

  1. Praise for Donald Trump who is being equated to Jesus, Buddha, Ghandi and the Second Coming of Jesus.
  2. Foaming-at-the-mouth attacks on the new Democratic member of Congress, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC).

The most common word was “socialism.”  To hear CPAC speakers tell it, AOC and the rest of the Democratic Party has adopted socialism or communism or Marxism or something . . . CPAC can’t make up its feeble mind.

American conservatives once read and listened to William F. Buckley and Edmund Burke.  No longer.  Today, it’s all Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and Tomi Lahren.  Stupid chasing after stupid.

Meanwhile, what’s behind the conservative and Republican fixation on AOC?  Simple — they don’t want voters to know the truth about her.

Ocasio-Cortez has become the symbol of Democratic resurgence .  She grew up working-class and made her way — winning international science fairs, waiting tables, tending bar.  The odds were mostly stacked against her: as the child of an immigrant, as a woman of color.

But she beat the odds and she wants others to have the chance to beat them, too.

Republicans have resorted to lies and half-truths to try and bring down Cortez because she represents the real America in a way they do not and cannot.

Republicans are so immersed in their own backward-looking ideology that they do not try to raise themselves to Ocasio-Cortez’s level by arguing that they have also earned what they have and want to let everyday citizens do the same.  Instead, it has been to lower Ocasio-Cortez to theirs by pretending that she has not earned anything at all.
