Trump speaks at UN as audience yawns, naps, reads, laughs

As an impeachment tsunami wave headed straight for Donald Trump continues to build, Donald Trump headed to his hometown to address the members of the United Nations at their headquarters in New York City. This was supposed to be a memorable moment of Trump’s presidency, showing the world the kind of leadership and vision that usually emanates from U.S. presidents. Unfortunately for Trump, this was perhaps the weakest, lowest-stamina point of his entire presidency thus far.

Trump read his speech from the teleprompter, using a monotone voice, showing no interest at all in what he was reading.  He seemed almost to be asleep — or an automaton with a tape recorder embedded.

The reviews of the speech were brutal.

Even Trump’s own Secretary of Commerce was unable to stay awake. Cameras captured Wilbur Ross sleeping throughout much of the speech.

Can you blame him? Even Trump seemed bored with his own speech. Axios called Trump expressionless and noted that he used a monotone voice throughout.

Was Donald Trump really talking about tyranny, saying, “It always comes down to the desire for domination. It protects not the interests of many, but the privilege of a few. Our founders gave us a system designed to restrain this dangerous impulse.” Oh, honey—they sure did. And we are going to put that system into motion with impeachment proceedings immediately.

At one point, while Donald Trump scolded Venezuela and droned on about socialism, the representative of Venezuela used the moment to quietly protest by picking up and reading a book about Venezuelan political leader Simón Bolívar, ignoring Trump entirely.

Global reviews were stinging. Asian News Daily editor Samitra Pakash described the speech as “Low energy and no big idea.”

A representative from Syria could not contain his yawns.

If Hillary Clinton had made the speech that Donald Trump made this morning, @FoxNews would have had body language and medical “experts” questioning whether or not she was having a stroke and claiming there’s something seriously wrong with her health.

Indeed, some U.N. members began laughing as the speech was coming to a close. Which is truly ironic, considering that one of Trump’s key 2016 campaign talking points was that the world was laughing. Well, the world is definitely laughing now.

The United Kingdom delegation seemed like its members could barely contain their laughter.

And if you are wondering how the speech went over on Fox News, rest easy, friends. While the world mocked Trump, one Fox News analyst called it his “best speech ever.”
