Have you heard this bullshit?
If not it is likely because you are not paying any attention to conservative media outlets which is where this idea is thriving.
It seems to have been given a shot in the arm when a former Hillary advisor, Philippe Reines, made an appearance on Fox News and suggested that she had not ruled out a 2020 run.
Courtesy of CNN:
“She ran for president because she thought she would be the best president. If she still thought that now, if she thought she had the best odds of beating Donald Trump, I think she would think about it long and hard….
”This is a huge if. But if she were jump in for whatever reason, and the party has moved someplace that she hasn’t, then she won’t get the votes. That’s the point of the primary. There are still 19 people. There are a few that are in double digits. If she were to run, and people [say] she’s too left, too right, too center, that’s the beauty of it. They get to vote against whatever they want….
“She’s not running because she has any anxiety about the Democratic field. She really likes a lot of the people running. She knows them well. She thought about some of them for her vice presidency. But there might be a reason that she would be the best person, not only to beat Donald Trump, but to govern after Donald Trump.”
This was from about four days ago and it is pretty clear that Fox News invited this guy on to make a statement just like this, which then allowed Fox News and various right wing news outlets to start banging a drum that simply does not exist.
Fox News attempted to provide credence to this theory by having former Bill Clinton advisor and current Fox News pseudo-Democrat, Dick Morris, on to fan the flames.
Courtesy of The Hill:
“My feeling is that she wants to,” Morris said. “She feels entitled to do it. She feels compelled to do it. She feels that God put her on the Earth to do it. But she’s hesitant because she realizes the timing is bad.”
The former adviser said he thinks Hillary Clinton is waiting for an opportunity to jump into the race and particularly for former Vice President Joe Biden to drop out.
“She’s got to wait until Biden drops out because he’s obviously next in line for it, and if he goes away, there’s an opening for her,” Morris said.
So much bullshit in those comments.
You can tell that Morris has gone to the dark side because he has adopted the right-wing term “entitled” when talking about Hillary.
That is pretty much a dead giveaway right there.
So let us put this whole thing to rest.
NO, Hillary Clinton is NOT running for president in 2020.
First off if she did she would immediately lose every single Bernie Sanders supporter, as well as a number of those supporting Elizabeth Warren right now.
Secondly, she would immediately re-energize the conservative base in a way that might actually help Donald Trump not just win reelection but also avoid impeachment.
And trust me that is a thing she would absolutely NEVER risk doing.
And thirdly, it would damage her legacy which right now has her looking like a kind of liberal Nostradamus who seemingly predicted every bad thing that Donald Trump would do as president.
So no, Hillary Clinton is not going to be a 2020 candidate, and only right-wing assholes would even entertain that possibility.
