This is the map that Republicans like to show you as they claim Virginia really is a “red” state.
The problem is that the map above is based on geography. The map shows each Virginia county with the red counties voting for Republicans, blue for Democrats.
However, the map below shows Virginia’s red-blue divisions based on VOTERS, not on geography (remember: land does not vote, people vote).
Most of Virginia’s population is in Northern Virginia, Virginia Beach, Richmond, and a few smaller urban centers scattered throughout the state.
