American conservatives — along with the Republican Party that is home to them — have lost their minds.
William F. Buckley and Edmund Burke have been replaced by Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh and Tomi Lahren.
Serious thought and analysis has been replaced by empty codewords thrown out at their Democratic and Republican opponents. “Elite,” “globalist,” “social justice warrior,” “politically correct” — terms that mean nothing but that today’s conservatives use in place of serious thought.
Today’s conservatives and repudiated the Reagan legacy, replacing Reagan with a bullying, lying, ignorant, philandering carnival barker.
The problem for the Republican Party and its conservative self is that the American public is now beginning to see through the facade of ignorance and hate. The American public recognizes now that they have been flim-flammed by a political party dedicated to enriching its corporate donors — the so-called “tax reform” act passed in secret by Republicans under Trump is jolted the public into reality.
As a result, the 2020 election is shaping up to be a blood bath for Republicans.
True, after the 2016 election Democrats needed an autopsy. Republicans needed an exorcism. Democrats are doing what they need. Republicans don’t recognize their peril.
